Why do you need a shaft coupling?

Couplings are used to transmit forces and simultaneously compensate errors. A coupling can be used to transmit rotational energy (torque, rotary motion) between two shafts, for example. In addition, a shaft coupling can be used to mitigate or damp radial, axial and/or angular shaft misalignments as well as torque shocks.

Assembly of a shaft coupling

A shaft coupling is normally attached to a shaft using two different methods:

with adjusting screw
with clamping hub

The coupling is drilled on both sides to the respective diameter of the corresponding shaft and then screwed tight. The assembly of a coupling differs greatly from type to type.
